Dear diary
I am having mixed emotions on whether i am happy to return home or not. Things between Blanche and Stella seemed to have gone from bad to worse. Why cant they sort things out? Only now Blanche wont talk she just sits there in a daze almost as if shes not here. She doesnt talk much and when she does shes badmouthing stanley calling him all the names under the sun, behind his back obviously and i dont think i can deal with that. Hes my husband and i shouldnt be putting up with the bad abuse that she calls him. I also thought she would be ecstatic to see the baby, she didnt look like she was happy to see it, it was almost as if i've disappointed her. Perhaps she's jealous like stanley suggested? But she seemed to excited when i was pregnant so what changed?
Im just so scared that things between them will turn so cold that one of them will just have to leave. i couldnt possibly choose they both mean so much to me, Blanche is my older sister whos been there for me for most of her life and stanley is the love of my life and now the father of my baby. But i know i cant bring up my child where there is constant conflict. Stanley has always been keen on her to leave and perhaps now is the right time? Oh lord i dont to what to think right now! I need to make a decision.
Maybe if she did leave then she could try building a future for herself with that Shep guy shes always mentioning.she would be alot happier then she is right now, i honestly just want the best for her. It would also mean that Stanley and I could concentrate on raising our child properly. Its not like Blanche can never visit, shes always welcome but for now i think i need a break and hopefully Stanley will realise that them two arguing and bickering all the time was trivial.
Stella 

the scene between scene 2 and 3

Mitch: i wonder who that is? never seen her around before. shes pretty
Steve: i dont know, im guessing Stellas sister? older sister? yes i guess shes still got it going on for a woman of her age
Mitch: i dont know pal but she sure is something good to look at
Steve: quit your talking and get inside, i got a game to play, im thrashing you tonight watch out! (laughs)


Steve and Mitch walk into the kitchen and greet Stanley and then take a seat on the poker table


Stanley: want a drink?
Mitch: keep them pouring
Steve: hes only saying that because hes spotted Stella with a beauty and now hes blushing like a girl
Stanley: what beauty? Blanche? thats Stellas beloved sister (starts sniggering) she aint no beauty!
Mitch: she looked alright to me
Stanley: your wrong pal, girls like her dont deserve a second look. shes come into my house prancing around like a queen and started calling the shots, i aint having it! shes hiding something and im going to get to the bottom of it.
Steve: alright enough about her, Stanley start dealing, its my lucky night

why does Blanche replace the bottle and wash the glass after having a drink?
Blanche replaces the bottle and glass because she doesn't want anyone to know that she drinks, she doesn't like to admit that she drinks and often lies about how much she does drink. After replacing the cup she says to herself "i've got to keep hold of myself" this suggests that shes feeble and often needs a drink to calm her nerves. this also suggests that she doesnt like the fact that she drinks so she trys to tell her self shes gotta be alot stronger and keep in control. Blanche hasnt been able to control anything that has gone on in her life so perhaps her drinking is the only way she feels like shes in control.


Pick out the petnames which Blanche has for Stella and explain why she uses them?
Blanche often refers to Stella as Stella the star, honey, baby and blessed child.
she uses these nicknames to show Stella how much she loves her and thats they have a close relationship with each other.


What evidence is there that Blanche is concerned about her looks? What does this tell you about her character?
"you havent said a word about my appearance" this suggests that Blanche is very self centred and vain, she likes compliments and often brings her appearance up in topic of conversation.
"i want you to look at my figure (she turns around)" this again suggests how concerned Blanche is about her appearance. It is almost as if she is displaying childish behavior and showing off.
"But dont you look at me Stella no, no, no not till later when i've bathed and rested" this suggests that Blanche isnt comfortable with herself and has to make sure she looks perfect before anyone can see her properly. she is insecure this could be to do with the fact that she had a terrible past and no longer feels beautiful. however she also could have said that to fish for compliments and Stella to tell that she looks fine the way she is.


What is Blanches attitude towards the place where Stella lives?
she doesnt approve and seems quite shocked at the fact that theres only two rooms this is because she has been raised in an enviroment where everything was of a high class and now she doesnt know how to react.
"this- can this be- her home?" she keeps pausing almost as if she is in shock and cant believe it so has to question herself.

oh stella my wonderful stella! sorry about invading your drinks cabinet i hope you dont mind my honey. its just that i was so nervous to see you, i didnt know what to expect. its been so long! i needed something to help me settle my nerves, i dont normally drink just the occasional one sometimes - erm you do understand that honey dont you?  (laughs nervously) i dont want you to think your older sister has turned into a drunkard. oh my god im so nervous! look at you beautiful as ever now come and sit down tell me how you have been?
